If you were wondering how hot it really is in Israel, and in particular, the Dead Sea, you might have been astonished this past weekend when checking out the temperatures in the region.
This summer has been as hot as ever (this is the Middle East, after all!) but on Saturday it reached an astonishing 51.4 degrees celsius! Field laborers toiling in the fields of Kibbutz Almog, next to the Dead Sea, were apparently working away in this record-busting heat, unaware that they were getting baked!
According to weather experts it broke a 70 year old record, and is now only beaten by the amazing 54 degrees recorded back in 1942 in the Jordan Valley, up the road from the Dead Sea.
It’s been a pretty sweltering few days but the heatwave is expected to drop off today. BUT could be returning in a few days…such is Israel in July/August.
The heat in the Dead Sea is unlike that of other areas in Israel, thanks to the amazing minerals in the air and the relative protection offered from the sun’s harmful rays, but it’s still VERY HOT!
